VAT breakdown
The UAE standard VAT rate is 5%, in force since January 2018.
The formula behind the number
VAT is a percentage of the net price. Adding VAT multiplies the net by the rate and adds it on top. Removing VAT divides the gross by one plus the rate to recover the net, then takes the difference.
Add VAT to a net price
When you enter a net amount, VAT is the amount times the rate, and the gross total is the amount plus that VAT. A net AED 1,000 at 5% becomes AED 1,050.
Remove VAT from a gross price
When a price already includes VAT, the net is the gross divided by one plus the rate. A gross SAR 1,150 at 15% has a net of SAR 1,000 and VAT of SAR 150.
One rate per country
This tool uses each country current standard rate. Zero-rated and exempt supplies, such as certain exports, healthcare, and education, follow their own rules and are not modelled here.
The rate follows the tax authority for the selected country. Rates and rules change, so check the figure against the primary source below.
This is an example calculation using each country standard VAT rate. It is not tax advice. Zero-rated and exempt supplies, place-of-supply rules, and registration thresholds may change the outcome. Confirm any figure against the tax authority for the country.
Handle VAT across the GCC on one system
Rivane keeps invoices, VAT, and filing-ready records in one place, so a return is a report, not a spreadsheet.
