Paste an International Bank Account Number and check it against the ISO 13616 standard. The country, length, and mod-97 checksum are verified in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Enter an IBAN

Spaces and lowercase are fine. This is checked locally in your browser.

How it works

What the check actually does

An IBAN is validated in three steps. This tool runs all three locally, so a real account number never leaves your device.

Country and length

The first two letters are the country code. Each country publishes a fixed IBAN length in the ISO 13616 registry. A German IBAN is 22 characters, a UK one is 22, a Saudi one is 24.

The mod-97 checksum

The first four characters move to the end, letters map to numbers (A is 10, Z is 35), and the whole thing is read as one integer. A valid IBAN leaves a remainder of 1 when divided by 97.

Structure, not ownership

A valid IBAN is well-formed, not proof the account exists or belongs to anyone in particular. Confirm the account details with the bank before you send money.

Sources

The country lengths and the mod-97 rule follow the official IBAN registry. The registry is the authority and is updated as countries join.

This tool checks the structure and checksum of an IBAN. It does not confirm that the account exists, is open, or belongs to a given party. Always verify payment details directly with the recipient and the bank.

Pay and get paid across borders on one system

Rivane keeps bank details, invoices, and reconciliation together, so a wrong IBAN is caught before a payment goes out.
