Paste or upload a CSV of accounts with a debit and a credit column, and see the totals, the difference, and whether the trial balance ties. Everything runs in your browser. No file leaves your device.
Add rows and select Check to see the totals.
Under double-entry bookkeeping, every posting has an equal debit and credit, so the sum of all debit balances should equal the sum of all credit balances. This tool totals both sides, reports the difference, and flags rows that look unusual. A trial balance that ties proves the two sides are equal. It does not prove every entry was posted to the right account.
Both columns are summed and the difference is shown. A difference of zero, within a cent to absorb rounding, means the trial balance is in balance. Any other figure points to a posting to chase.
A row with an amount in both the debit and the credit column, or a negative figure on either side, is flagged. These are not always errors, but a trial balance normally records one positive amount per account.
A tie means the debits and credits are equal. It cannot catch a figure booked to the wrong account, a missed entry posted to neither side, or two errors that cancel out. Treat a tie as a check passed, not a close signed off.
The trial balance and double-entry are standard accounting concepts rather than regulated data. For neutral references:
This is an example check of the rows you provide. It confirms whether debits equal credits and flags unusual rows. It is not an audit, a close, or accounting advice. Review flagged rows and any difference against your ledger.
Rivane posts every transaction with matched debits and credits, so a trial balance is a live report, not a spreadsheet you reconcile at month-end.
